The Belfast Resilience Strategy - the city’s first Climate Plan - was formally launched on 15th December 2020. Produced by the Belfast Resilience and Sustainability Board in collaboration with key partners, it has set an ambitious target for the city. Resilience goal: our goal is to transition Belfast to an inclusive, zero-emissions, climate resilient economy in a generation.

Using a wide range of data and research and, following a two year programme of engagement across the city, we identified a number of shocks and stresses which could make Belfast more vulnerable and which could threaten our economic, social or environmental future. As a result the strategy has three areas of focus or multiple problem solvers - actions that solve several risks at once:

Multiple problems solvers: climate adaption and mitigation; participation of children and young people, and connected, zero-emission economy

We have also agreed 30 'foundational programmes' - decade-long interventions which will have a positive impact, at scale, across the city to help achieve our Resilience Goal.

We want people to continue to be involved and engaged in resilience and sustainability. So, as we roll out these programmes and as we review the strategy, we will create opportunities where we can work together to improve life in the city.

In the meantime, tell us your big green ideas that you want to see in Belfast using the feedback tools below.

We want the resilience strategy to be a living document that grows and responds with the city.  We don't want it to sit on a shelf gathering dust - we want it to make a real difference!   And this is just the start.  So, tell us what you think of the resilience strategy and keep the conversation going by sharing your ideas on what we should we be doing to make this happen.

This is an open forum, so you can read what other people have said, comment and discuss the various ideas and suggestions.
