Why 2 Royal Avenue?

2 Royal Avenue is an iconic listed building with a prominent location on Belfast’s 2 Royal Avenue in the core of the city centre and the rationale for the acquisition recognised the strategic importance of the building and its location both in the short term as part of the more immediate city recovery efforts as well as the longer-term re-imagining of the city centre. The building’s architectural merit has been recognised as an opportunity for Council to sympathetically refurbish and promote the heritage building as an example of Belfast’s historical architecture.

Council’s strategic acquisition was a key element within a wider Future City Centre Programme led by Council that also focuses on other priority areas to reimagine the city centre including increasing city centre living, enhancing the cultural and tourism offering, improved connectivity and accessibility via the Bolder Vision, addressing vacancies and dereliction and delivery of BRCD projects including Belfast Stories.

The place-making potential of the building is recognised, including connectivity to Bank Square, one of the city centre’s key public and cultural open spaces.
