Park Opening Hours Consultation
Public access to our parks is generally managed in line with the standard council "dawn to dusk" park opening hours, which extend to 10pm in the summer. However, ongoing investment has meant that some of our parks and greenways now benefit from improved lighting along their main path ‘spine’, which allows us to extend access and use.
Purpose of consultation
We're seeking views on the opening hours of five of our parks:
- Ormeau Park
- Falls Park
- Woodvale Park
- Botanic Gardens
- Belmont Park
These parks currently open from dawn to dusk, but under our proposed opening hour pilot initiative, we want to pilot extended opening hour arrangements.
This consultation gives park users and residents the opportunity to have their say about the proposals to extend the opening hours. It's your chance to highlight any local factors that we would need to take into consideration. The findings from the consultation will be presented to Elected Members along with recommendations, as appropriate, for extended opening hours.
You can have your say by filling in our online survey - there is a separate survey for each park. You can also come along to one of our drop-in information sessions. Hard copies of the survey will be available at our information sessions or can be requested by emailing parksinfo@belfastcity.gov.uk(External link).
Next steps
Subject to approval and funding, the extended opening hours will be trialled for an agreed period of time. On completion of this trial period, an evaluation and follow-up consultation will take place to review the opening hour arrangements. Only then, will final recommendations regarding opening hours be made.
