We’ve developed exciting new proposals to create a new walking route on the lower section of Black Mountain and we’d like to hear your views on the plans.
Main proposals
A new loop will link the new Black Mountain Shared Space Project building on Ballygomartin Road with the Upper Whiterock Road and Moyard Parade.
An entrance to the path will be created on the Upper Whiterock Road (known locally as the Mountain Loney).
Stock fencing will enclose the path to protect users and animals in nearby fields.
The route of the pathway has been carefully planned to work around a few local raths *
Visitor information signs will be installed along the path to provide information about the local area.
Seating will also be installed so that people can enjoy views of the city and the surrounding hills.
The path has been designed so that it will have minimal impact on the landscape, using materials which will allow for drainage.
Opening times and operational issues will be discussed during our engagement exercise to ensure local residents are happy with final arrangements.
* A rath is a circular enclosure surrounded by an earthen wall. It was used as a dwelling and stronghold in former times.
