Black Mountain Pathway, Access to the Hills
This phase of the engagement has now concluded. Please check again later for further updates.
We’ve developed exciting new proposals to create a new walking route on the lower section of Black Mountain and we’d like to hear your views on the plans.
Main proposals
- A new loop will link the new Black Mountain Shared Space Project building on Ballygomartin Road with the Upper Whiterock Road and Moyard Parade.
- An entrance to the path will be created on the Upper Whiterock Road (known locally as the Mountain Loney).
- Stock fencing will enclose the path to protect users and animals in nearby fields.
- The route of the pathway has been carefully planned to work around a few local raths *
- Visitor information signs will be installed along the path to provide information about the local area.
- Seating will also be installed so that people can enjoy views of the city and the surrounding hills.
- The path has been designed so that it will have minimal impact on the landscape, using materials which will allow for drainage.
- Opening times and operational issues will be discussed during our engagement exercise to ensure local residents are happy with final arrangements.
* A rath is a circular enclosure surrounded by an earthen wall. It was used as a dwelling and stronghold in former times.
