Belfast: One Million Trees
Consultation has concluded
In 2020, we began working with partners from organisations across the city to create a process for collective tree planting across Belfast. The idea originated with Belfast Metropolitan Residents Group and has become an ambitious partnership initiative coordinated by Belfast City Council, which aims to make our city greener, cleaner and healthier. Our ambition is to see one million trees planted over a 15-year period.
Why is planting trees important?
We had been been working behind the scenes to coordinate the Belfast One Million Trees programme, identifying potential sites for planting, and building a partnership of statutory agencies and voluntary organisations who can help us make this happen. Then in December 2020, we were very excited to be able to launch the Belfast One Million Trees programme - check out our short video and stay in touch!
Now, its your chance to get involved. Each year, we'll be asking for your ideas about how we can make the Belfast One Million Trees happen. Use the mapping tool below to show us the "Places" where you'd like to see a tree planted or tell us your comments and ideas using the "Ideas" tab. We especially want to hear from businesses and public landowners across the city who would be willing to plant a tree on their land.

New submissions for potential sites for 2022 has now closed.
A big thank you to everyone who got involved over the last two year and suggested potential sites for tree planting in the Belfast One Million Trees Programme. The Belfast One Million Trees Delivery Team is assessing these sites for suitability and any approved sites will join our next round of tree planting. We’ll let you know the outcome of the assessments as soon as we can.
New submissions for sites in Belfast will re-open again next year. In the meantime, you can still get involved and tell us your ideas and thoughts about the Belfast One Million Trees programme by clicking here.
