Belfast City of Community Music

My favourite music experience has been founding and managing our Beatndrum Samba Band programme for over 17 years. Seeing the nervous beginner players develop into confident stage performers and pulling off some major collaborative performances with hundreds of musicians in unconventional venues.

I always loved reclaiming the city streets for BEAT CARNIVAL parades and performances, going toe to toe with our audience.

Encouraging citizens to participate instead of spectate! That's what it's all about! Get involved!

Belfast has a HUGE number of bands that would be classed as Community Music, check this map out, we counted 90 but there's probably more to add. (get in touch if you'd like your band / group included on the map)

This is a huge amount of music education that is going on outside formal structures and is surely part of our City's Musical Story.
