FAQs
What is Good Relations?
Good Relations is the term used to describe the legal framework, aspirations and activities that contribute to the creation of a shared, peaceful society across Northern Ireland. It does this by breaking down sectarianism and racism, promoting diversity, and ensuring mutual respect and trust.
Good relations legislation places a legal duty on all public bodies to have regard to the desirability of promoting good relations between persons of different religious belief, political opinion or racial group.
In Belfast, we deliver a wide range of good relations projects and initiatives across Belfast. This includes celebrating cultural diversity, challenging sectarianism and racism, promoting the development of positive relationships between people from different backgrounds and creating shared space and marking key events.
We promote Belfast as a city for everyone.
What is the Shared City Partnership?
The Shared City Partnership is a working group that sits under the Council’s Strategic Policy and Resources Committee. It brings together elected members and community partners to advise and guide on good relations issues within the city. It provides strategic oversight of key council strategies and oversees work aimed at promoting good relations, peace and reconciliation, including the council’s PEACE IV and PEACEPLUS programmes.
