Why is the council proposing to setup a temporary caravan/motorhome site?
Belfast will host Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in August 2026, an event expected to attract more than 800,000 visitors to the city. To help accommodate our visitors, particularly those travelling in caravans, campervans, and motorhomes, the council is proposing to establish a temporary site. This facility would provide suitable space and amenities for our visitors ensuring a positive experience for everyone attending the Fleadh.
Why has the Council selected this location?
The proposed location offers convenient access to the main motorway routes in and out of the city, making it easy for visitors to arrive and depart. It is also close to the city centre and surrounded by a wide range of attractions and essential services that visitors are likely to use during their stay. The accessibility and nearby amenities makes the site a practical and welcoming base for those attending the event.
What facilities will be provided on the site?
The temporary site may include a range of facilities to ensure comfort, convenience, and a positive experience for visitors, such as:
Your feedback will help us shape a welcoming site that meets the needs of our visitors.
What impact will the site have on the local environment?
As part of the planning process, the council will carry out all required statutory assessments for the site, including detailed environmental impact reports. These investigations will help identify any potential effects on the local area and ensure that appropriate measures are put in place. The final site design will also include proper waste management facilities to minimise environmental impact and maintain high standards throughout the event.
How will the proposed site impact on local residents & businesses?
If planning permission is granted and the site is established, it is expected to create positive opportunities for residents and businesses in the surrounding area. Visitors will make use of local shops, services, and attractions in the Titanic Quarter, contributing to footfall and supporting an already vibrant part of the city. The increased activity during the event has the potential to bring economic benefits and showcase the area to a wider audience.
How long will the site be needed?
It is anticipated that the temporary site will operate during the first two weeks of August 2026. The exact duration will be confirmed through the final planning application process. There will be a period of setup and takedown associated with the site. The site may also be used in 2027, if Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann returns to Belfast for a second year.
