East Bank Development Strategy: public consultation

Closed 29 Sep 2017

Opened 7 Jul 2017

We’ve developed a strategy for an area east of the River Lagan described as the East Bank, and we’d like to hear your views on our proposals. Our aim is to inform planning and investment decisions that will impact the long-term development of this area.

The area comprises 43 acres with a long frontage of 865m along the river. It runs from the SSE Arena car park at its northern end to the Sirocco Works site to the south and is bounded by Short Strand to the east.

The draft strategy contains proposals for how the area might be developed and better connected to the city centre and the communities adjacent to it.

Our vision

“By 2030, East Bank will be fully woven into the fabric of the city centre. It will be lively, diverse, accessible and well connected to the city core, the River Lagan and surrounding communities; providing places to live, work and socialise.”

We want to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to comment on our East Bank Development Strategy so that we can ensure it is fit for purpose and meets the many needs of our city and those who live, work and visit here.

The full draft strategy can be downloaded from the link towards the bottom of this page.

What Happens Next

Thank you to everyone who completed the East Bank Development Strategy Public Consultation survey.

When the consultation period ends on 29th September consultation responses will be carefully considered and a report will be prepared containing a summary of the issues raised and proposals to amend the draft Strategy to address these comments where appropriate. The finalised Development Strategy will be reported back to the Council for approval in autumn 2017.
