Belfast City Council Improvement Objectives 2020 - 21

Closed 24 Apr 2020

Opened 25 Feb 2020

Overview

Every year, councils in Northern Ireland must publish an improvement plan that sets out a number of improvement actions for the year ahead.   When developing this plan and identifying the improvements, we must consult with residents so they can have a say on what the improvements should focus on.  This is a legal obligation referred to as our “Duty to Improve”.

This is your chance to influence what goes into our improvement plan.

Our improvement plan does not describe every single improvement or activity that the council intends to do.  Unlike, our corporate plan, which sets out everything we want achieve, the improvement plan focuses on a small number of specific areas for the year ahead.  Therefore, it is important that we get these right - are we focusing on the right things, is anything missing or do you have any ideas about what you would like to see happen?

When choosing our improvement actions, we wanted to have a good balance across the wide range of issues that local people have told us is important to them.  We used the priorities from the Belfast Agenda as the starting point for our improvement plan.  Developed following extensive public engagement, the Belfast Agenda reflects local people’s ambitions and priorities for the city.  It is the overarching plan for improving quality of life in Belfast and guides what council and other public agencies in the city will do, along with businesses and communities, to make Belfast better.

Each year we review our improvement plan and update the improvement actions for the year ahead to make sure they are still relevant and appropriate.  We now want to know what you think about our proposed improvement priorities.  Based on your feedback, we will then finalise our Improvement Plan 2020 - 21 and publish it on the council’s website by 30th June 2020.

You can read a summary of what we are proposing to include in our improvement plan by clicking on the PDF document at the bottom of this page.  We have also included this information in the online survey itself, which we hope will make it easier for you to read and tell us your views.

You can also view the Belfast Agenda and our Draft Corporate Plan 2019- 23 by clicking on the links at the bottom of this page.  These are PDF documents, so if you need these in another format, please email policy@belfastcity.gov.uk
