Belfast Stories is a flagship city‑centre destination designed to drive the next phase of growth in the city’s visitor, creative and screen economy. Bringing together a major visitor attraction, a creative hub and high‑quality public spaces, it will increase footfall, extend dwell time and support economic, social and cultural regeneration across Belfast. At its heart are four interconnected galleries capturing the spirit of Belfast, three cinema‑quality screen auditoria, and a new indoor event space designed to showcase local and international screen‑based work.
About the Event Space
We are exploring the development of a large, flexible, flat‑floor event space within Belfast Stories. The aim of the proposed event space is to offer a modern, adaptable environment capable of supporting broadcast production, cinema exhibition, immersive XR and live events. A high‑performance environment designed to support a range of screen‑based and cultural uses.
Proposed Core Uses
Immersive XR exhibitions — enabling large‑scale international work (e.g. Bigger & Closer, The Moonwalkers) and new locally commissioned content.
Large‑screen film events — including premières, gala screenings and cast‑and‑crew events beyond the capacity of the three dedicated cinema spaces.
Television production studio — a broadcast‑ready environment supporting the growing unscripted TV sector.
Other live cultural events — festivals, exhibitions and programming that complement existing city‑centre cultural infrastructure and amplify the storytelling vision of Belfast Stories.
We recognise that many users and programme strands may overlap across these modes. You can read more about the specifications, key features and supporting here.
Market Engagement
We want to hear from groups and organisations who would be interested in using this proposed space. Your feedback will help us to:
understand market needs and opportunities
inform the design development and operational model
shape the specification and future business case
determine whether a future competitive process is required
This is an informal, exploratory call to the market. It is not a competitive process and creates no legal obligations for respondents or the Council. If your organisation could use or benefit from this type of facility, we invite you to share your insights.
Your feedback will help shape the next stage of Belfast Stories.
